Classic storytelling that treats young viewers as discerning and intelligent. Very funny, very entertaining. TV Times
I also wrote a book based on the series.
I dreamed up this idea with Andrew Davies on a very hungover drive from London.
He had always wanted to write something that had the anarchic flavour on The Bash Street Kids from the Beano comic, and I wanted to write a series in which the kids ran the school.

He had always wanted to write something that had the anarchic flavour on The Bash Street Kids from the Beano comic, and I wanted to write a series in which the kids ran the school.
We wrote some of the first series together and then I took over as Andrew had other commitments. It ran for 2 series and was nominated for a BAFTA. I also wrote a book based on it.
IDRIS ELBA got his first screen break in the series. He played one of the school bullies in the 2nd series.
Reviews include:
"Has the rare quality of being a Children’s Drama that is genuinely funny." The Guardian
"Strong ensemble characters that are a joy to watch. The dialogue sparkles."
The Independent
"Brilliant. The writing and whole production is exceptional."

The first series was an adaptation of the Dick King Smith book. Second and third series were new ideas and I wrote 2 books based on them.
We got a lot of awards – RTS Awards, Writer’s Guild, BAFTA nominations. Often called a ‘classic’ series in reviews in the Radio Times, The Guardian, the Independent.

"The Queen’s Nose was like nothing else, and it enabled children to take control. It was rebellious, a little anarchic and as kids we loved it…The Queen’s Nose was awarded Best Kids TV Show by the Royal Television Society in 1996, probably because it gave us kids a sense of adventure, hope and imagination. Its characters kept us entertained and the storyline gripped us. We knew that when that tune played and the weird kaleidoscope effects appeared on our telly screens that the next 25 minutes were going to be awesome, and that’s why to any 90’s kid, The Queen’s Nose is and always will be TV gold."
Redbrick
BBC series about a boy who discovers that his Grandfather is actually a secret agent, and pairs up with him to foil an international bank raid.
I wrote 2 episodes.
Various episodes over the years for the popular ITV series.
The longest running police procedural series ever in the UK and one of the longest TV drama series.
Broadcast in over 55 countries.
Episodes I wrote shared in numerous awards, including a BAFTA and Writer’s Guild for Best Drama.
BBC film about a philosopher detective. It won Best Britflick Award in Canada.
Some 15 years later I was having a meeting with a publisher who has seen it and asked if I would like to reinvigorate the character for a series of crime fiction novels. This became a series of 4 novels entitled A Mind For Murder. I have a fifth planned.

"A highly original take on the crime drama format. A philosopher who has an unhealthy interest in criminal worlds. Recommended."
TV QUICK
"One to watch. Robert Lindsay as Luke Hawkins, an offbeat, witty and self destructive character. Strong plot and manages to keep several stories bubbling. Sheridan Smith is thoroughly engaging as a student desperate for good marks."
TV CHOICE
"This is one of the best things I’ve seen in a while. Brutal and corrupt underground boxing investigated by Luke Hawkins, a man with many demons. I caught it by accident and would love to see it again."
TV ONLINE REVIEW
"A one off drama that begs to be a series. Cracker for the millennium. A Lecturer solves crimes while his private life falls apart... Very strong on character and dialogue."
"Robert Lindsay shows how to fill the small screen. Hawkins is a breath of fresh air... The main character engages you from the start and never lets up."
THE MIRROR
"A nicely wrought piece of grown up drama by the BBC. An intelligent script that dares to slow down when necessary and explore infidelity whilst in the middle of a crime investigation. This is quirky, clever, TV drama at its best."
