I dreamed up this idea with Andrew Davies on a very hungover drive from London.
He had always wanted to write something that had the anarchic flavour on The Bash Street Kids from the Beano comic, and I wanted to write a series in which the kids ran the school.

He had always wanted to write something that had the anarchic flavour on The Bash Street Kids from the Beano comic, and I wanted to write a series in which the kids ran the school.
We wrote some of the first series together and then I took over as Andrew had other commitments. It ran for 2 series and was nominated for a BAFTA. I also wrote a book based on it.
IDRIS ELBA got his first screen break in the series. He played one of the school bullies in the 2nd series.

It was rebellious, a little anarchic and as kids we loved it…The Queen’s Nose was awarded Best Kids TV Show by the Royal Television Society in 1996, probably because it gave us kids a sense of adventure, hope and imagination. Its characters kept us entertained and the storyline gripped us. We knew that when that tune played and the weird kaleidoscope effects appeared on our telly screens that the next 25 minutes were going to be awesome, and that’s why to any 90’s kid, The Queen’s Nose is and always will be TV gold."
